HOME : Current Articles : Effects of Alkaline Diet on Anti-Aging Effects of Alkaline Diet on Anti-AgingINTRODUCTION Sang Whang writes in his best selling book "Reverse Aging" that to become younger we need to firstly aunderstand the value of an alkaline diet and alklaine water and their roles in the process of anti-aging. We become old when we do not get rid of (eliminate) toxins and wastes that are always being created in our bodies. No matter what type of food we eat - be it organic or junk fast food, acidic or alkaline - they are all basically a combination of four elements. These elements are oxygen, carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen. When our cells burn up (or oxidize) nutrients two main things happen; out body temperature is maintained and our body receives energy so it can function. All nutrients are oxidized (no matter what their source) and they all become organic acids such as lactic acids, uric acids, ammonia and carbonic acids. This was known for centuries by the Chinese who defined oxygen as "sahn-so" which translates as "acid root". So all foods finish up as acidic wastes and these wastes need to be eliminated through urine and sweat (after they are dissolved into the blood) and through defecation. The blood is what carries nutrients to the cells and waste materials away - so healthy blood means a healthy body. SanG Whang's background as an engineer, scientist and inventor helped him apply scientific principles to natural phenomena and in this process become a leading spokesperson in the anti-aging movement. His affirmative conclusion was that anyone can become younger if she or he so desires. WHAT CAUSING AGING? If we have an impaired way of releasing toxins then over time there will be an acid build up in certain parts of our body. Depending on many factors some areas will become more acidic than others and also the blood vessels in these areas can begin to clog up (as acid toxins are stored in fatty tissue away from vital organs). When we age and experience the so-called aging diseases we accept this as natural. But there does not have to be a connection between old age and feeling exhausted, sluggish, confused and in pain. At birth our arterial blood has a high alkaline pH level pH of 7.44. Then as we age, the blood pH reduces to about 7.35 or below. Now a difference of about 0.09 may seem to be very small but pH is logarithmic, which means that young people carry 23% more of hydroxyl ions in their blood than older people. No wonder they are more energetic because hydroxyl ions are oxygen donors. Our modern lifestyles create a lot of acidic buildup. Compare this to people in rural areas like Vilcabamba where it is common for people to reach 100 and be in good health. But in the USA high levels of stress, environmental pollutants, over indulgence, addiction to fast foods and a lack of healthy exercise, rest and good water etc create a situation where the body cannot eliminate all those acidic waste by-products. In accumulating these waste products inside our body we get old. What makes anti-aging uncommon is that it is very difficult to eat enough of a healthy, clean alkaline diet (containing plenty of calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium etc) to compensate for the inorganic and organic acid minerals (chlorine, phosphor, and sulfur etc) that comes in so much of our diet. And also even if you do not eat any acidic foods there is still plenty of acidic waste produced as an end product. The importance of good levels of alkalinity in the body can be easily seen, for example, in cases of gout or arthritis. These conditions are typically caused by deposits of uric acid crystals. Now uric acid is hardly affected by acidic compounds but is quickly dissolved in solutions of alkaline salts. In other words, the low alkalinity of an unhealthy or older person's blood will do little to dissolve uric acid crystals. The good news is that drinking healthy levels of clean, alkaline water will over time help to improve the pH of the blood, urine and saliva. Alkalinity and Healthy DietDue to hereditary, DNA, lifestyle and environmental factors - where the waste deposits are stored will vary from person to person. And where these deposits accumulate the most, can be a good indication of what type of adult problem may develop first. Because the storage places in members of a family may be similar due to DNA and hereditary factors this can be a reason why certain health challenges arise in certain families. In certain extreme cases, the acid buildup can be so great that it starts to destroy healthy cells around them. All healthy cells keep a slightly alkaline pH level. Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1931 for showing that mutating, unhealthy cells cannot live in an alkaline environment. Some cells change their formula in order to survive in an acidic environment. WHAT IS ANTI-AGING? As mentioned before if the build-up of waste products within the body causes or advances the aging process, then helping the body get rid of these stored wastes is the anti-aging process. One stage of this reverse aging process is to make sure that our bodies can easily get rid of the waste products that are constantly being produced. That is why drinking clean and healthy water is so important - to keep the cells and our body well hydrated and to help removal in the form of sweat and urine. Another stage is to help the body remove old deposits of waste. Dr. Robert Young (author of the pH Miracle series) says that the fat around our waistline that grows as we age is actually saving our lives. It is an accumulation of acid toxins that are encased in fatty tissue so they will not damage the vital organs. Of course, it is our body's desperate attempt to do what it can to prolong life and if the acid toxins increase then eventually wellness must be compromised. Development of A Good Disposal System Because waste products are all acidic, we can best help ourselves by drinking water that is acid-free and alkaline and with a strong -ORP. Four glasses of clean alkaline water can be compared to more than eight glasses of regular, bottled water or filtered tap water and will be easily absorbed due to its strong negative (OH-) charge. Alkaline water from a water ionizer has about twice as many alkaline minerals as the source water but no acid minerals, When regular tap water goes through a water ionizer it is first filtered to remove water contaminants then split into acid and alkaline streams. A good ionizer can create alkaline water with over a 10 pH and an acid pH below 5 pH. The alkaline water is what is used for drinking and cooking while the waste acidic water can be used for the skin, plants and cleaning. Content 1 Bottom
