Acidic Water Applications

Those of us who know about water ionization are very familiar with the properties and benefits of alkaline, ionized water. However, a sometimes "underappreciated" product of a water ionizer is the acidic water produced. In actuality, there are many acidic water applications and benefits.

Inside an ionizer are platinum coated titanium plates that split the positive charged cations from the negative charged anions in water. Alkaline minerals are generally positive charged cations and acidic minerals are generally anions. Alkaline minerals/cations come out with a strong negative electrical charge (oxidation reduction potential) and the acidic minerals/anions come out with a strong positive electrical charge (oxidant).

Acidic water produced by an ionizer is low in pH and high in oxidants. Depending upon your source water, pH level selected and flow rate, acidic water typically ranges in pH from 3.5 to 7.0 and an ORP of +500 to +800 mV. The low pH and high oxidation properties make acidic water a powerful bacteriostatic agent for a wide array of acidic water applications and benefits. Super-acidic water (pH from 2.5 to 3.0) is achieved by adding salt to the water.
Uses for 2.5 to 4 pH acidic water applications and benefits: Water with a pH this low is high in hypochlorous acid, which is one of the most powerful disinfectants on the planet. Water with a pH of 2.5 and an ORP of +1,000 mV can kill virtually all bacteria, viruses, molds and yeasts in a matter of seconds. The USEPA has a protocol for certifying devices of this type. Most ionizers produce water that is not that strong consistently, but many of the sanitizing properties of the water are still retained and acidic water is great to use on hard surfaces around the home.

Uses for 4.0 to 6.0 pH acidic water applications and benefits: Our skin has a naturally acidic mantle with a pH of around 5.5 and it is being stripped away by most products on the market today. Moderately acidic water in this pH range can benefit many external skin conditions including, athletes foot, hemorrhoids, gingivitis, scalp conditions and others. In addition, most plants thrive when acidic water is used for watering irrigation.

When you make alkaline water for drinking and cooking there is also about 30% acidic water as a by-product. If you collect this water it is ideal for watering indoor plants.

So the acidic water applications and benefits are quite significant and come as a bonus from drinking alkaline water - making a water ionizer a wise investment for any household.
