HOME : Current Articles : Acidic Wastes and How they Affect the pH Balance Acidic Waste and How this Affect the pH BalanceAs we get older our systems become less efficient and we do not dispose of internal acidic wastes and toxins the way we used to. These wastes will accumulate over time. The main ingredients in all food whether they are expensive or inexpensive, gourmet or junk food, vegetable or meat, alkaline or acid are either carbohydrates, proteins or fats. These macronutrients are nothing but the combinations of four elements: carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen and oxygen.
After these nutrients are used in the body (oxidized) in the cells, they are converted into a number of different types of metabolic waste which include, but are not limited to organic acids: carbonic acids, uric acids, lactic acids and fatty acids. These acidic toxins are removed from the body in liquid form, typically as urine or perspiration. The systems that remove waste from the body are, in many cases, overburdened. This unfortunately is for the most part due to our life styles and environments (i.e. over eating, overwork, over indulgence, not enough rest, staying up late, not enough exercise, inadequate water consumption, smoking, pollution, high acid diet and the list goes on). To make matters worse is the fact that the organic acids mentioned above combine with the inorganic acid minerals that we ingest in our diets (chlorine, phosphor, and sulfur etc.). These are part of acidic foods such as: meats, grains and root crops. And if we don`t eat enough of the alkaline forming foods such as raw, unprocessed fruits and vegetables that contain inorganic alkaline minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, etc. our bodies can become extremely acid. Our body does its best to compensate by taking calcium and other minerals out of the bones and blood, or wherever else it can find them... but over time the battle may be lost if it can’t keep up. We are born with an alkaline blood pH of about 7.44. As we get older, our blood pH can drops down to about 7.35. For those that don`t know the number seven is neutral, while anything above 7 to 14 is alkaline. Any number below seven to the number one is acidic. Even very small changes in arterial pH can make a big difference in the body in terms of health and longevity. Just to give you one example of how an alkaline environment can help maintain health we will use uric acid as an example. Uric acid is nearly insoluble in water, alcohol, and ether, but soluble in solutions that are alkaline. In other words, uric acid becomes soluble in alkaline water! Here is a perfect example of how acid works in the body. Arthritis and gout are caused by uric acid deposited between the joints, solidified due to the acid environment that you typically find in an older person`s blood. What can you do about it? Well, it has been shown that drinking ‘acid free’ alkaline water and going on a healthy diet will gradually increase a person`s blood pH, and their gout will disappear naturally! We cannot just accept these types of pathologies and other types of diseases as just a symptom of getting older. This acidic environment will cause physiological changes to occur over time that will eventually cause systemic organ failure. This will occur on every level from the cardiovascular system to the digestive system and everything in between. You`re not helpless in preventing this from happening! Content 1 Bottom
